Introduction This week, I am going to introduce a film that is called “Bicycle Thieves”. It’s a film that brought me to discover about the theory Italian Neorealism throughout the whole film. Bicycle Thieves is an Italian film that has been recorded in year 1948 which directed by an Italian director and actor Vittorio De Sica. Theory Discussion Italian Neorealism is a film theory that has been used by national film to divide the poor and working class throughout the story in film. It is always filmed on certain qualified venues, which is also always filmed by hiring non-professional actors. Italian Neorealism films basically are stories that facing a lot of difficulties in economy and moral values, which reflects the condition of Italy after the World War II. I will break the genre part into two parts. Semantic which as known as visual, and syntax which as known as them. To make sure a certain kind of genre of films, both of this aspect must be used complimentarily

Intro To be honest, the movie that have showed and to let us study this week is basically regarding the lecture we had on 14/07/2017 which is the theory film noir. The goal for me to study about this film and the theory is to understand what is film noir fully by finish watching this film. I tried my best to finish watching it and to apply every part that I have learnt into this movie. Theory discussion Still I will break the genre part into semantic which as known as visual, and syntax which as known as them. To make sure a certain kind of genre of films, both of this aspect must be used complimentarily as both in front of screen and behind of the screen is very important. As for the evolutionary part that we have discussed in class, I guess every genre also need to know where and how each genre should be at and stay, but production teams must have extremely creative ideas even if they are making the same genre kind of movies again and again in order to attract and lock

Intro The blogpost this week for us is to find out the German expressionistic elements that could be found in the movie Sleepy Hollow, which is an American film produced and directed by Tim Burton in year 1999. By that, the goal of this post for me is to study about this movie, watch it, and get to know about what theory is used in it which showed the semantic and syntactic approach to genres for the film. Along my study of this film, by accomplishing my goal, I would also have an attempt to determine the German expressionistic elements found in film by stating it out in the analysis section of my post. Theory Discussion Talking about genre, it come with semantic and syntactic, in which the semantic is basically things or parts that are expected in the genre of a film, while in which the syntactic is the ideology of the certain genre. The semantic aspect is mainly about visuals of the film which related to the mise-en-scene while the syntax is the theme of the gen

In the Mood for Love

Introduction The aim of writing this is to investigate and discuss about the Hong Kong movie “In the Mood for Love”, which is produced and directed by director Wong Kar Wai in 2000, led by Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung, by using what I’ve learnt in Film Studies lectures. For this time, I am going to separate this movie into some parts and scenes to discuss as I wish to discuss about it from those smalls parts instead of making it as a whole. Theory The theory that I am going to apply in this film is not going to focus only one point but different kind of perspective that I think that is suitable. Lecture scopes that I have learnt this week is about the topic surrealism, which is the kind of based on the psychology of characters and the psychology part in shooting skills of film, and about the topic German expressionism, basically about the oblique angles and high contrast of sets in the scene. Synopsis The story is a moody period drama about unrequited love of a pair
